On a mission to seamlessly blend brazilian funk, dub-roots reggae, rock and samba-soul, Frederico7 & the Hashashin began performing as a unit in late 2009.
Frederico Geib (voice-rhythm nylon guitar), Greg Jones (electric guitar-ambience soundscapes), Pete Powers (drums), and Nick Treviño (bass) form the core of the band. John Branch (electric keyboards) has recently joined in, while special guests such as Michael Longoria (percussion-drums) and André França (percussion-vocals) can be seen adding their talent and energy onstage.
Long-time friends who have played in successful projects in Austin. TX throughout the years (Ghandaia, Echobase SS, Alpha Rhythm, Mudphonic to mention a few), the group is all about exploring intelligent songwriting with ferocious grooves and scorching melodies. Perhaps writer Ajay Miranda put it best when he wrote "Frederico7 & the Hashashin is one of those bands that you have to see live at least once so you know this type of band exists…" (for the full review and video, click here).
The group fuses original renditions of early classics from Jorge Ben and Gilberto Gil as well as modern brazilian artists such as Lenine and Chico Science & Nação Zumbi. Original songs are sung in both Portuguese and English… (with some Spanish and French thrown in the mix). Ordinary life is already filled with boundaries, so why should there be any in art and music? The band sees their music as an extension of their rich life experiences. Live performances are always heartfelt and vivacious as there is simply no other way for the Hashashin!
So, come to a show or contact us if you want to see the band live in your town. F7 & the Hashashin are on a mission; a mission of groove!
